PINEHURST, N.C. - Following day one of the Pinehurst Challenge, Marshall combined for a 639 during the opening round which showcased 36 holes. The tally puts the Herd at plus-63 for the challenge.

"We left a lot of strokes out there today," said head coach Meredith Knight Rowsey. "We have grown together as a team, but we are still young. We have a lot to learn about dealing with issues and still being able to score. We will only get better with every experience."

Freshman Korakot Simsiriwong led the Thundering Herd with a combined score of 152 after shooting a 77 (+5) in the first 18 and 75 (+3) to finish the day. Her effort places her 44th individually.

Pinehurst, N.C. native Kristyn Morrone followed, shooting 15 strokes over par. Rachel Thompson and Maria Battaglia rounded up the day with 159 (+15) and 167 (+23), respectively.

After leading the Herd in the first round with a score of 74 to put her just two strokes over par, Allison Harper was forced to sit out the second 18 due to injury.

North Carolina State leads the field with a 571 combined score to put them five under par after the first day. Wolfpack golfer Vivian Tsui shot a 140 (-4) during the first two rounds to lead the field individually.

Tomorrow's action will be an 18-hole round, starting at 8:45 a.m. ET. Be sure to stay tuned to www.herdzone.com for final results.
