Herd Places Fourth in NewWave Communications Classic

MURRAY, Ky. - After shooting a round two score of 317, Marshall women's golf earned fourth place in the Murray State NewWave Communications Classic.
"The course was a challenge," commented head coach Meredith Knight Rowsey. "We didn't play outstanding but we played better than our score represented. The girls and I are anxious for the spring and ready to get back on the road for Pinehurst and UNC-Wilmington over spring break."
Following a first round score of 333, the Herd completed day two with a 317 to end the tournament with a combined score of 650 (+74).
Three Marshall players tied for sixth individually including Rachel Thompson, Allison Harper and Korakot Simsiriwong. Thompson and Harper each knocked off six strokes from the first round and shot a 77 to close the tournament, while Simsiriwong shot a 79 to close the tournament with a 160 combined score.
Caitlyn Morrone and Maria Battaglia each shot over 172 for the tournament, while Morrone improved her second round by four strokes (84).
Drury University finished first in the tournament after shooting 628 for the tournament. Drury's Katrina Choate ended the event with a 147 (+3) and was the individual winner.
Marshall women's golf will next travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the Pinehurst Challenge. The tournament is a two-round event and will start on March 19.
