Pittman Shares C-USA Player of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas - Just days after the Thundering Herd defeated South Carolina State 85-69 with a career-high 31 points from senior forward Elijah Pittman (Covington, Ky.), Pittman has been named Conference USA Co-Player of the Week by the league office.
This marks Pittman's first career Player of the Week recognition, along with the first for a Marshall player since DeAndre Kane received the honor Nov. 19, 2012. It also marks the fifth C-USA Player of the Week honor in program history.
During his record-setting performance, Pittman shot 9-of-17 from the field and 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. Those numbers marked career highs in field goals made and three-point field goals made. The senior forward is the only returning starter for Marshall in 2013-14 and his 16.1 points per game last season has him as the top returning scorer in C-USA. Prior to the start of the season, Pittman was named a C-USA Men's Basketball Player to Watch, along with being named a College Sports Madness C-USA first teamer.
Pittman's 31 points were the most points by a Herd player in a season opener since Ronald Blackshear scored 32 in a 92-90 win at Niagara (Nov. 22, 2002).
Pittman shared the honor with senior forward Rakeem Buckles of FIU after he averaged 17.7 points and 12.0 rebounds through the Panthers first three games.
Marshall will welcome Rio Grande to Cam Henderson Center on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
