Madi Pulfer of Ottawa, Ontario has signed a National Letter of Intent with Marshall University, swimming and diving coach Bill Tramel announced Wednesday.

Pulfer has been a rising backstroker in Canada for the past few years. She competed at the 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials as a 15 year old. Later that summer, she placed 15th at the 2012 Canadian National Championships in the 200 backstroke. She swims for the Greater Ottawa Kingfish, where she holds the team record in the 50 backstroke.

"We are tremendously excited to add Madi to our team next fall," Tramel said. "Madi is already two seconds faster than our Marshall school record in the 200 backstroke. She is one of four backstrokers we have signed this fall, and I can't wait to coach what is going to be a very fun group."

Pulfer's best times are in short course meters. Converted to short course yards, they equal 2:01.44 in the 200 backstroke, and 57.49 in the 100 backstroke.

Pulfer added, "I was originally drawn to Marshall because of Bill Tramel, and his experience as a coach. Once I went down for a visit and got to know the team, I knew it was the place for me. I can't wait to be a part of the Herd."

Pulfer is the eighth member of the Marshall swimming and diving recruiting class of 2014.
