Marshall Advances 11 to Day 2 of Zippy Invite

Akron, Ohio - Marshall's swimming and diving team has continued its tear through the Zippy Invite at the University of Akron, Saturday morning. The Thundering Herd advanced 11 to finals, which will begin at 6 p.m.
Senior Madison Lawhorn (Baltimore, Ohio) was the top qualifier for Marshall, qualifying second in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:04.27.
Marshall loaded the 400 individual medley and will bring back five tonight. Freshman Teel Hartmann (Louisville, Ky.) qualified fifth with a season best 4:30.44. Joining Hartmann in the Championship Final tonight, will be senior Sarah Kay (Cape Town, South Africa). Kay finished eighth with a lifetime best 4:31.95. In the Consolation Final tonight, senior Vera Niemeyer (Wuerselen, Germany) qualified 10th with a lifetime best of 4:33.57. Senior Heather Moore (Roswell, Ga.) was 13th with a season best 4:35.48 and junior Kacey Preun (St. Andrews, Mantitoba, Canada) 14th with a season best of 4:38.19.
In the 100 butterfly, Marshall advanced freshman Chloe Parsemain (Fos sur Mer, France) in the 20th place slot with a 59.66 and junior Katie Kramer (Naples, Fla.) at 23rd with a season best 1:00.22.
The Herd will have a representative in each of the three heats of the 200 freestyle in the finals. Junior Kaley Gregory (Hurricane, W.Va.) qualified sixth with a season best 1:54.61. Senior Tiffany Aeling (Columbus, Ohio) clocked a lifetime best 1:55.76 and was 13th. Qualifying for the Bonus Final at 22nd was freshman Bree Mury (Round Rock, Texas) with a season best 1:56.83.
"We continued performing our best-to-date this morning," coach Bill Tramel said. "There are plenty of details we can execute better and during the break we will review film to correct those for tonight. I'm looking forward to the excitement of finals."
Diving will compete this afternoon and finals begin at 6 p.m.
