HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall will play two of its next three game at home beginning on Saturday with a 7 p.m. tip against UAB at the Cam Henderson Center.
The Thundering Herd enters the game with a 12-15 record overall, 5-7 in Conference USA following an 82-70 win at UCF on Wednesday.
Marshall obtained its first road win of the season in dominating fashion as it led 48-34 at halftime and led by as many as 22 points mid-way through the second half. Its 48 points at the half was Marshall's most ever in a C-USA road game, one better than the 47 scored in the first half at Southern Miss on Jan. 27, 2009.
Junior forward Elijah Pittman had 20 points in the game to raise his team-leading average to 15.6 points per game, the seventh-best in the conference. Junior guard DeAndre Kanehad 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting and is now averaging 14.6 points along with 7.2 assists, the seventh-best in the NCAA.
The Blazers are 12-14 overall, 4-7 in C-USA and have won three of its last four games including its latest outing, an 80-57 win over Rice last Saturday. Junior forward Jordan Swing leads a balanced UAB roster in scoring with 13.8 points per game. First-year player Rod Rucker is averaging 13.7 points and a team-leading 8.2 rebounds per game.
UAB is just 2-9 on the road and like Marshall, has one road conference win under first-year head coach Jerod Haase.
UAB leads the all-time series 12-6 and have won the last two meetings. The Blazers are 6-2 in Huntington where they have won four-straight games.
In the first meeting this season, UAB got 18 points and 10 rebounds from Rucker to beat Marshall 75-61 in Birmingham, Ala. despite 20 turnovers. Kane had a game-high 23 points for the Herd which trailed almost the entire game.
