C-USA Schedule Announced for Men's Basketball

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - New Conference USA member and first-time Marshall opponent UTSA will begin a 16-game schedule for the Herd men's basketball team this upcoming season.
The Jan. 9 game in San Antonio, Texas will be the first of eight road games. This season, the conference will have travel partners to make the new Thursday-Saturday format easier to manage. Following the Thursday game at UTSA, the Thundering Herd will play at UTEP on Saturday, Jan. 11.
The first C-USA game at Cam Henderson Center is on Thursday, Jan. 16 against North Texas. The two teams have faced one other time, a 95-55 Herd win on Dec. 13, 1954. Tulsa then comes to Huntington for a game on Jan. 18. The Golden Hurricane leads the overall series 8-6, but Marshall has won the last two meetings including a big 79-61 win in last season's C-USA opener.
Marshall's second conference road trip begins at Rice on Thursday, Jan. 23. The Herd has dominated the series with the Owls, leading it 6-2 and has won four straight. Marshall then takes on last season's Western Athletic Conference champions Louisiana Tech on Jan. 25 in Ruston, La. The two teams have met twice before with the Bulldogs winning the meetings in 1984 and 1985.
Two South Florida schools will come to Huntington beginning with FIU on Thursday, Jan. 30. It will be second-ever meeting and the first since an 88-79 Marshall win on Nov. 29, 2010. The Herd will host Florida Atlantic on Feb. 1, the first meeting between the two schools.
Marshall travels to Southern Miss for a game on Thursday, Feb. 6 before heading to Tulane for a Feb. 8 game. The Herd will play its third consecutive road game on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Charlotte, Marshall's travel partner for the season. Marshall leads the all-time series 4-2, but the two have not met since Feb. 11, 1978.
The Herd hosts UAB on Thursday, Feb. 20 and Middle Tennessee on Feb. 22. The game with the Blue Raiders is a rematch of the 2012 NIT first round held in Murfreesboro, Tenn. MTSU won that game and lead the all-time series 4-2.
Marshall makes its final road trip on Thursday, Feb. 27 at Old Dominion. The all-time series is tied 4-4 and will be the first meeting since a 72-60 win by the Monarchs on Nov. 21, 2009.
The final homestand of the season will begin with East Carolina on Sunday, March 2 before ending with senior day on Thursday, March 6 against Charlotte, the only C-USA team Marshall will play more than once.
The non-conference schedule, start times and games picked up for television will be announced at a later date.
