HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall softball team and coach Shonda Stanton are excited for the start of the 14th annual Lil' Sis Program.

The program was created to provide girls in grades 1-8 with a friend, mentor and role model ... and who better than the reigning Conference USA champions! The program has turned into a platform for the squad to become positive role models for the youth of the community.

Sam Spurlock has experienced the program from both sides, as a Lil' Sis growing up in Huntington and later as a student-athlete on the team.

"As a little girl who grew up in Huntington and was a part of the Lil' Sis program, I was living out my lifetime dream when I got the opportunity to play for the Herd," she said. "As a player, I knew how much it meant to the little girls in the program, because I was once that little girl. I wanted to show these girls that their dreams can come true, too. I am a living example of one of them."

For eight months (September-May), the members of the program will be able to get to know the softball student-athletes on a personal level, while being able to enjoy a competitive level of collegiate softball.

Members may receive a $5 discount if a friend joins the programalong with them. For questions, contact assistant coaches Kendall Fearn (304-696-3279, kfearn37@yahoo.com) or Chanda Bell (304-696-3979, bellc@marshall.edu).
