HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall men's soccer team (3-6-2, 2-2-0) dropped a match on the road to rival Kentucky (6-3-3, 2-0-2) in a Conference USA matchup in Lexington, KY.
AGAINST THE WILDCATS
A Marshall handball in the box led to a penalty attempt for Kentucky in the 49th minute, which was buried by Napo Matsoso to make the score 1-0 Kentucky.
In the 83rd minute, Matsoso and Justin Laird combined to send a ball into the box that was slotted home by Jason Pitts to make the score 2-0 and seal the win for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats outshot Marshall 14-12 with nine shots on goal compared to 3. Ryan Forde produced the most shots for Marshall with six and one on goal.
THE GRAY AREA
Marshall Coach Bob Gray on the Old Dominion Game:
"It was a pretty good match actually, pretty even statistically. We had just as many good looks as they had. We got unlucky to get a penalty on an errant handball for their first goal and then they were able to score late, but we played them very tough."
"It was a result that as I told the guys after the game I was disappointed after the FAU loss and I wasn't as disappointed with this result, because we battled them throughout and gave them a good game all the way through."
