BLACKSBURG, Va. - With sights set on continuing on in singles and doubles play, Marshall tennis was unable to continue its run any further in day three of the ITA Atlantic Regional , hosted by Virginia Tech , on Sunday.

"They played really well, just a little inconsistent," head coach John Mercer said. "That's the thing, we have to get more consistent and the results will continue to come if we do that. We lost some close matches, and once that consistency comes, it will come with the results we want."

The Thundering Herd doubles duo of sophomore Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany) and senior Kai Broomfield (Toronto, Canada) dropped their opening match of the day, 8-7 (5), to Raluca Mita and Ilinca Stoica of Virginia Tech in the round of 16.

In her first singles match of the day, Turhan triumphed with a victory over VT's Mita, 7-6 (4), 6-0, in the round of 32. Turhan's victory placed her in a round-of-16 matchup with Virginia's Stephanie Nauta , who entered as the region's No. 1 seed in singles play.

Broomfield was the second of two Marshall competitors remaining in the singles draw as she fell, 6-2, 6-3, in her round of 32 meeting with Nikol Hristova of Old Dominion.

With a spot in the quarterfinals on the line, Nauta took down Turhan, 6-0,6-1, to end the Herd's run in the Atlantic Regional after three days.

Marshall will now prepare for the College of Charleston Challenge, its final fall event of 2014, which will take place Nov. 7-9 in Charleston, S.C.
