HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Following a 1-0 loss to Western Kentucky in its Conference USA home opener, Marshall women's soccer (3-4-2, 0-1-0) will look for its first league win this weekend at Charlotte (4-4-1, 1-1-0) and Old Dominion (2-6-2, 1-1-0). The Thundering Herd will travel to face the 49ers on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Lady Monarchs on Sunday at 1 p.m.

In addition to live tweets from @HerdWSoccer, live stats and live video will be available through each opposing team's website.

HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall was held scoreless in its C-USA opener by Western Kentucky at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex, snapping the Herd's seven-match scoring streak (Sept. 27). Marshall decisively out-shot the Hilltoppers (20-5) and led in corner kicks (6-3), but was unable to produce an offensive output. Kelly Culicerto (Charlotte, N.C.) took a team-high seven shots but placed zero on target. Herd goalkeeper Lizzie Kish (Boyertown, Pa.) made two saves.

TRYING OUT TOURNAMENT TURF
The Herd will have the opportunity to scout a potential postseason venue on Friday when it visits the site of the 2014 C-USA Women's Soccer Championship: Charlotte's Transamerica Field. Opening in 1996, Transamerica Field hosts all the action for both the 49ers' men's and women's soccer teams. The site, which features natural grass, has played host to NCAA Tournament games, Atlantic 10 Championships and several professional soccer teams (including the Bolton Wanderers of the English Premier League).

LONG STORY SHORT
Quotes by coach Kevin Long:

On contributions by many different players on the roster:
"We need it. We see it in training. Every player on the roster did a really good job in training [last week]. We recognized it during the previous week of games that we weren't playing very well for 90 minutes and it was disappointing. It's affecting our record. So, we put it to the players - we said we need players to step up. We need players to fight for their minutes."

SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte (4-4-1, 1-1-0) opened C-USA play by splitting a weekend in Florida: falling to Florida Atlantic 1-0 (Sept. 26) and defeating FIU 2-1 (Sept. 28). The 49ers are 2-0-0 at home, having played all but two matches on the road. Martha Thomas tops the team with 13 points (6 goals, 1 assist). She and teammate Perri Bonner are tied for first in C-USA with 0.67 goals per match. Annika McHenry has played all but 12 minutes in the net for Charlotte, making 46 saves. Her 5.11 saves per match is good for second place in the conference.

The 49ers are unbeaten against the Herd, leading the series 3-0. Last season, the teams met twice: at Transamerica Field when Marshall fell 1-0 (Oct. 25, 2013), and once in the 2013 C-USA Championship quarterfinals in Houston, when Charlotte ended the Herd's season in a 3-1 decision (Nov. 6, 2013).

SCOUTING THE LADY MONARCHS
Old Dominion (2-6-2, 1-1-0) split its C-USA opening weekend by falling to FIU 2-1 (Sept. 26) and defeating Florida Atlantic 2-1 in overtime (Sept. 28). The Lady Monarchs have yet to win at home this season, at 0-1-2. Jessie Klamut leads the team in five categories: points (9), goals (4), assists (1), shots (30) and shots on goal (12).

Marshall and Old Dominion met for the first time last season when the Herd shut out the Lady Monarchs 1-0 at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex (Sept. 27, 2013).

UP NEXT
The Herd will return to Huntington for a four-match home stretch in 10 days, beginning with UTSA (Oct. 10) and UTEP (Oct. 12) at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex. For all the latest information about Marshall women's soccer, follow @HerdWSoccer on Twitter.
