10/20/2014 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team (4-7-2, 2-3-0) will host perennial college soccer heavyweight and No. 4 ranked Charlotte (10-2-0, 3-1-0) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex. Charlotte will be the highest ranked team to play at Hoops Family Field in the regular season since the stadium opened in 2013.
The game will be the Marshall men's soccer service appreciation night, in which any service personnel and government workers can show their badge and purchase a $1 ticket, while members of their family can buy a $3 ticket.
HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall has doubled its win total from 2013, with a 4-7-2 overall tally heading into the final four matches of the regular season. After dropping last Saturday's match to UAB, the Herd stands at 2-3-0 in Conference USA, in fifth place of the nine-team league.
A reminder to Herd fans that Saturday's match against Florida International has been moved to 11 a.m. so as not to conflict with the football game against Florida Atlantic at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
SCOUTING THE 49ers
Charlotte is ranked No. 4 nationally and is 10-2-0 in 2014. The 49ers lost their first game on the road this season on Saturday, 2-1 against Old Dominion. The loss snapped an impressive nine-game winning streak that dated to Sept. 9. Kyle Parker leads the 49ers with seven goals and seven assists and leads Conference USA with 21 points.
THE GRAY AREA
Marshall coach Bob Grayon the Charlotte match:
"We are excited to play a team like this at home, because we have everything to gain and nothing to lose. They are athletic and relentless. Their style of play is physical, winning a lot of second balls and they get after you. They are pretty good out wide as well, which will present a challenge."
