HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - With the regular season winding down, Marshall women's soccer (6-5-4, 3-2-2) will compete for a Conference USA postseason berth when it faces Southern Miss (5-8-3, 0-4-3) and Louisiana Tech (10-5-2, 2-4-1) on the road this weekend. The Herd will take on the Golden Eagles on Friday at 4 p.m. and the Lady Techsters on Sunday at 1 p.m.
In addition to live tweets from @HerdWSoccer, live coverage will be available through each opponent's website.
HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall had its five-game unbeaten streak snapped by Middle Tennessee in the Herd's home finale on Sunday, 1-0, at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex. The Herd out-shot MT (16-14) and held the Blue Raiders to zero corner kicks (3-0). The Thundering Herd's unbeaten streak was the longest since Marshall opened the 2009 season with a program-record seven consecutive wins. The Herd had not lost since dropping its C-USA opener against Western Kentucky, 1-0 (Sept. 27).
LONG STORY SHORT
Quotes by coach Kevin Long:
On the team's performance against MT:
"We try to own a style of play that, regardless of our opponent, we can be proud of. I think maybe today we were a bit distracted with the events and emotions [of Senior Day]. We forgot to play a way that we owned, and that's a possession-oriented style. We played right into the hands of Middle Tennessee. We played very direct, and that is not our style."
THE CULICERTO CONNECTION
The Herd has won all but one game when a Culicerto sister scores a goal in 2014 (6-1-2), with the only loss (2-1) coming at Miami (Ohio) (Sept. 19). The Culicertos lead the team with six goals apiece, while senior Kristine tops the Herd with 13 points (six goals, one assist) and junior Kelly claims team-highs of 54 shots, 25 shots on goal and four game-winners.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Southern Miss (5-8-3, 0-4-3) is winless in Conference USA. However, the Golden Eagles are 0-0-3 at home in league play. Three players top the team with eight points apiece, while Karen Torres and Casey Adkins have each netted a team-high four goals. Last time out, goalkeeper Brittany Taylor grabbed a program-record 21 saves while holding Louisiana Tech to zero goals. She was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week for her performance.
Marshall has defeated Southern Miss more than any other opponent in its 16-year program history, leading the series, 7-2-1. Last season, the teams tied for the first time in a scoreless draw after double overtime in Hattiesburg, Miss. (Oct. 6, 2013).
SCOUTING THE LADY TECHSTERS
Louisiana Tech (10-5-2, 2-4-1) boasts one of the most potent scoring offenses in the nation, ranked No. 6 with 2.82 goals scored per game. With 48 total goals scored, the Lady Techsters are ranked first in C-USA and fourth nationally. Kathryn Sloan, Dennis Taylor and Brittany Beddow have combined for nearly half of the team's goals (23), while 16 different Lady Techsters have found the net this season.
The Herd and Louisiana Tech met for the first time last year when Marshall fell, 2-0, in Ruston, La. (Oct. 4, 2013).
