RUSTON, La. - Although Kristine Culicerto (Charlotte, N.C.) gave Marshall women's soccer (7-6-4, 4-3-2) an early 1-0 advantage, Louisiana Tech (12-5-2, 4-4-1) scored back-to-back goals in the second half to defeat the Thundering Herd, 2-1, on Sunday at Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
Culicerto scored her eighth goal of the year - tying the team high held by her younger sister, Kelly Culicerto (Charlotte, N.C.) - when she took a cross in the box from Sydney Arnold (Stafford, Va.) and chipped it into the top left corner of the LA Tech net in the 30th minute. Marshall held off the Lady Techsters for the remaining 15 minutes of the half and went into the break on top, 1-0.
Two minutes into the second half, Brittany Beddow lofted a ball to team scoring leader Kathryn Sloan, who went one-on-one with Herd goalkeeper Lizzie Kish (Boyertown, Pa.) and struck a long ball into the net to equalize the match. With each team looking for a go-ahead score, the Herd was called for a foul inside its own box, resulting in a LA Tech penalty kick.
AGAINST THE LADY TECHSTERS
Marshall led in shots (10-9) and each team had three corner kicks and made four saves.
