Louisville, Ky. | E.P. Tom Sawyer Park
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - With the Marshall men's and women's cross country teams already having completed two fall meets, just two remain in the regular season, starting with the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic on Saturday morning.
Results and a recap from the event will be available at www.HerdZone.comand on Twitter (@HerdTFXC).
HAVE YOU HERD?
The Thundering Herd has shown improvement over its first two events. While the men have struggled with a lack of depth, the women have worked on gaining experience for its freshman-laden side. The last time out for Marshall came at the Asheville Cross Country Carnival (Sept. 20), where the men's finished fourth out of 12 programs and the women finished sixth out of 11.
SMALL TALK
Quotes from coach Jeff Small
On Saturday's meet
"There will be over 100 colleges and universities competing in this meet. There is also a big high school meet going on as well so it will be an exciting atmosphere."
On the progress of the women's team
"Our girls team has had a couple good weeks of training since our last meet. I feel like they are ready to have a big breakthrough performance on Saturday."
On the men's team
"The men have been training well too but with their lack of depth we need all five of our top runners to bring the juice on Saturday in order to perform well as a team."
SCOUTING THE MEET
Hosted by the Louisville Sports Commission, the Herd will run in three different races as the men will race in the men's blue 5k, while the women's squad will be split between the women's blue 5k and the women's silver 5k. A total of 45 teams will be competing in the men's blue 5k, while the women's blue 5k and women's silver 5k will have fields of 42 and 54 teams, respectively.
Conditions are expected to be much cooler in Louisville on Saturday morning than they were earlier in the week. The forecasted high for Saturday is 55 degrees with a low of 39.
UP NEXT
The Herd will have some time off to continue training as Marshall's final contest of the regular season is the Cross Country Only National Invitational on Friday, Oct. 17 in Mechanicsville, Va.
