HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team (4-8-3, 2-4-1) will skip across two time zones to face Conference USA and NCAA men's soccer power No. 15 New Mexico (10-4-1, 3-3) in an important matchup for the Herd's Conference USA Tournament chances. The match will be Saturday, Nov. 1 at 9 p.m. ET.
HAVE YOU HERD?
Saturday's match will be the final in Conference USA play this season for Marshall. Currently, the Herd sits in the seventh and final spot that advances to the Conference USA tournament in Norfolk, Va. on Nov. 12-16. The two teams behind Marshall, FIU and FAU, each have one more Conference USA game than Marshall left on the schedule.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS
The Lobos are at 10-4-1 this season and 3-3 in Conference USA. New Mexico dropped its last game 3-2 against UAB. The team is ranked No. 15 in the latest NSCAA poll and is 7-1-1 at home in 2014.
Last season, the Lobos advanced to the Final Four of the College Cup, before losing 2-0 to eventual champions Notre Dame.
Chris Wehan leads the Lobos with 16 points off of seven goals and two assists.
THE GRAY AREA
Marshall coach Bob Grayon the New Mexico match:
"What better atmosphere can you ask for? We are going to play a team that was in the Final Four last year and it is one of the better atmospheres in the country."
"We are going to play a very good team that, like Charlotte, we aren't supposed to be competitive with on paper, but we get to go in there and make some noise."
"They don't have any weaknesses and they get after you and are relentless. Jeremy Fishbein is one of the most successful coaches and does a great job. Teams go in there and have trouble in the altitude and the hostile environment too."
