HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- After clinching its spot in the Conference USA tournament, Marshall's men's soccer team (5-8-3, 3-4-1) will play a nonconference match Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Asbury, Ky. on Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.
HAVE YOU HERD?
The Thundering Herd was able to clinch its spot into the seven-team Conference USA Tournament field with a 2-1 win Saturday at No. 15 New Mexico. The field is set with Marshall, Charlotte, Kentucky, Old Dominion, New Mexico, South Carolina and UAB qualifying already, but the seeding will not be finalized until conference play wraps up Saturday. The Herd currently sits in fifth place in the standings. The tournament will be Nov. 12-16 in Norfolk, Va.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Asbury is 7-9 and is coming off an 8-1 win against Cincinnati Christian University at home. The team plays its games in NAIA Division I and the Gulf Coast/Kentucky Conference and is 2-2 in conference play. Garrett Davis leads the Eagles with six goals.
THE GRAY AREA
Herd coach Bob Gray on Asbury game:
"Each team receives a bye week in Conference USA and normally you never want to have your bye week the last week of play, but ours was. So we are playing a team that's pretty close by in Asbury and we are hoping to continue to make strides toward getting ready to make some noise for the conference tournament when it starts next week."
GLOSTON NAMED CONFERENCE USA DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Marshall men's soccer goalkeeper Bijan Gloston (Clarksville, Tenn.) was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the team's 2-1 win against No.15 New Mexico, the league announced Monday.
Gloston served as the vocal leader in the win against the Lobos, recording seven saves and allowing just one goal in 90 minutes of action. Gloston has 52 saves this season and ranks ninth in the NCAA and first in Conference USA with 5.63 saves per game.
Gloston joins fellow goalkeeper Dominik Reining as the only Marshall players to win the award this season.
