IRVING, Texas - Marshall women's soccer's Kelly Culicerto (Charlotte, N.C.) has been named to the Conference USA All-Academic first team, the league announced on Wednesday. The award is the first of her career.

The honor adds to a growing list of accolades for the junior midfielder, who earned first team All-Conference USA honors on Tuesday. In addition to being the first player in program history to earn first team All-C-USA honors, she is the first Thundering Herd player to earn both first team all-academic and all-conference honors in a single season. All-time, she is the third member of the Herd to make the C-USA All-Academic first team (Sarah Vinson: 2010, '11, '12; Erin Johnson: 2006, '07, '08), and the first since 2012.

"Kelly, like all our athletes, does a great job in the classroom," coach Kevin Long said. "It's great to see players recognized for all-conference and all-academic efforts. It's a testament to what they do around the clock. I'm really proud of her and the rest of the team. I'm glad that she's being recognized for her hard work."

While holding a 3.67 GPA in business management, Culicerto has been a dominant player all over the pitch for Marshall. This year, she has scored twice in three matches, leading the Herd past Eastern Illinois (Aug. 29), UAB (Oct. 17) and Southern Miss (Oct. 24). Marshall is 5-0-0 when she finds the net, and she and older sister Kristine Culicerto (Charlotte, N.C.) lead the Herd with eight goals and one assist apiece for 17 points. Her 69 shots are the most since Angela DeSumma fired 77 in 2011.

This afternoon, No. 8 seed Marshall (7-6-5, 4-3-3) will face No. 1 seed North Texas (14-4-1, 8-1-1) in the first round of the Conference USA Championship at 4:30 p.m. ET at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, N.C.
