Caroline Wanner of Stafford, VA has signed a National Letter of Intent with Marshall University, Head Coach Bill Tramel announced Monday. Wanner attends Brooke Point High School in Stafford and swims for the Rappahannock Area YMCA Swim Team.

Wanner is the 2014 Class 5A Virginia High School State Champion in both the 200 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyle. She is also a 2014 USA Swimming National Qualifier. Her top times include 4:21.30 in the 400 Individual Medley, 2:04.28 in the 200 Individual Medley, 4:56.80 in the 500 Freestyle, 2:02.91 in the 200 Back, 57.14 in the 100 Fly and 2:05.48 in the 200 Fly.

"We are thrilled to add Caroline to our family," Tramel said. "She is primarily an IM'er (Individual Medley). I love IM'ers because they usually are very versatile. That definitely is true of Caroline. She won't be bored in dual meets as we will move her around plenty. I think the most exciting thing is that she has US National cuts (qualifying times) and will be an impact swimmer in Conference USA. She just moved teams to the RAYS (Rappahannock YMCA) and that should further enhance her development."

Wanner also excels in the classroom and was named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American in 2013 & 2014. She plans to major in Health Sciences in preparation for admissions to the Physician Assistant graduate program.

"I was attracted to Marshall by the growing reputation of the swim team, great coaching staff, and the programs available in the College of Health Professions," Wanner said. "I felt I connected with the Marshall coaches better than anywhere else and am excited by the chance to contribute to the program right away. I can't wait to be a part of the Marshall team."

Wanner is the fourth member of the Class of 2019.
