HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University's softball team has released its 2015 schedule, with eight series at Dot Hicks Field and contests with eight teams that participated in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, Head Coach Shonda Stanton announced Wednesday.

Stanton feels her team has had a solid fall semester and is excited for the 2015 season to start.

"With coming off of one of the best fall seasons in terms of our team's work ethic, coachability and chemistry, we eagerly anticipate a fast and strong start to the 2015 season," Stanton said.

Marshall opens play on Feb. 6 with two games in Charleston, S.C. at the Charleston Challenge. The Herd will play Army at 1:30 p.m. and the host College of Charleston at 3:30 p.m. on the first day of the season.

As in past seasons, Marshall will face a challenging and road-heavy schedule. The Herd will play in four regular season invitational tournaments, the Charleston Challenge, the Pirate Snow Classic hosted by East Carolina from Feb. 13-15, the USF Tournament in Tampa, Fla., from February 20-22 and the Gamecock Invitational from Feb. 27-March 1 in Columbia, S.C.

The Herd's eight opponents that participated in the 2014 NCAA Tournament include: Dartmouth (Feb. 20), Auburn (Feb. 21), South Carolina (Feb. 28), South Florida (Feb. 20), UAB (May 2-3 at Dot Hicks Field), College World Series participant Kentucky (April 8), Ohio (March 19, at Dot Hicks Field) and Charleston Southern (Feb. 28).

Conference USA play will start in Miami against FIU on March 7-8. The first home Conference USA series also will double as the home opener on March 14, against Western Kentucky.

In addition to the home opener versus WKU, Marshall's 24 game C-USA slate includes home contests against North Texas (April 3-4), Florida Atlantic (April 18-19) and UAB (May 2-3). Besides traveling to FIU for the C-USA opener, Marshall will hit the road for Charlotte (March 21-22), Middle Tennessee (April 11-12), and then to El Paso, Texas to face UTEP (April 25-26).

Marshall softball's quest to return to a fourth straight C-USA title game will take place in Miami with the FIU Panthers hosting the conference championship from May 7-9 2015.
