Complete C-USA Championship Results

Atlanta, Ga. -
The Thundering Herd swimming and diving team concluded its 2013-14 season with the final session of the C-USA Championships Saturday evening. Marshall had five swimmers compete in individual events, with two swimming in A Finals.

"What a great meet these Marshall women just had," coach Bill Tramel said.

Senior Vera Niemeyer (Wuerselen, Germany) placed seventh in the A Final of the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.78. The time fell just behind the school record she set this morning and was the second fastest in Marshall history. Niemeyer's finish earned the Herd 16 points.

Fellow senior Sarah Kay (Cape Town, South Africa) also competed in an A Final for the Herd. The senior placed eighth in the final of the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.29, the tenth best in school history. She added 15 points to Marshall's total.

In the B Final of the 200-yard breaststroke, senior Madison Lawhorn (Baltimore, Ohio) led a trio of Marshall swimmers with a fifth-place finish (2:21.45). Her time ranks twelfth in the record books. Junior Heather Moore (Roswell, Ga.) and freshman Mikaya Reynolds (Chattanooga, Tenn.) placed seventh (2:23.12) and eighth (2:23.57), respectively.

The Herd wrapped up the session by competing in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Bree Mury (Round Rock, Texas), Niemeyer, freshman Chloe Parsemain (Fos sur Mer, France) and junior Katie Kramer (Naples, Fla.) recorded the seventh fastest time in Marshall history with a 7:33.81 finish.

In the platform diving event, freshman Rachel Sleichter (Lorton, Va.) led the Herd with a 15th-place finish (125.55). She was followed by freshman Megan Wolons (Williamsburg, Va.) in 19th with a score of 116.45 and junior Casey Kyriacopoulos (Charlottesville, Va.) in 20th (115.70).

"I think the most impressive were our divers. All three scored on platform. What an accomplishment working without a diving coach's guidance. I couldn't be more proud of them," Tramel said.

The Herd completed the meet in ninth place with 328.50 points.

"I think the final tally from our 43 swims was 35 lifetime bests and 29 times in the all-time top ten for Marshall. Just phenomenal," Tramel concluded.
