Marshall Finishes Seventh at Hoya Invitational

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Seeing improved scores from four of its five competitors, Marshall women's golf posted a nine-stroke difference in the second round to record a 69-over par 645 total at the Hoya Invitational, Tuesday, at The Members Club at Four Streams.
"We are very close to playing well as a team," Marshall coach Meredith Knight Rowsey said. "Certainly we have not peaked yet but I know we will get there."
After shooting a 39-over 327 in undesirable weather conditions during the first round, Monday, the Herd bettered its score by nine strokes on the final day with a 30-over 318 to secure seventh place out of a 16-team field. Pennsylvania won the tournament with a 31-over 607, and Michigan followed with a 35-over 611.
Junior Korakot Simsiriwong (Narathiwat, Thailand) finished in the Top 20 for Marshall, totaling a 13-over 157 to tie for 18th. Sarah Helly (Enniscrone, Ireland) displayed the biggest improvement from her 11-over 83 showing on the first day, shooting a 5-over 77 on the second day to end in a tie for 24th.
The Herd concluded the final round as follows:
Korakot Simsiriwong - T18 (79-78=157)
Sarah Helly - T24 (83-77=160)
Rachel Thompson - T36 (83-80=163)
Gabby Marcum - T45 (82-83=165)
Ashley DeMoss - T68 (91-87=178)
Next, Marshall will compete in its final tournament before the Conference USA Championship when it enters the EKU Colonel Classic, April 4-5, in Richmond, Ky.
