Herd to Face Highlanders for Second Consecutive Season

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall softball (10-23) will welcome Radford to Dot Hicks Field for a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday.
The Thundering Herd holds a commanding 8-2 series lead over the Highlanders. Marshall defeated Radford on the road last season, 5-1 in eight innings.

HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall dropped three games at Mississippi State this past weekend. The Herd fell to the SEC opponent 4-0, 2-0 and 9-1(5).
Sophomores Kaelynn Greene (Eastvale, Calif.) and Shaelynn Braxton (Woodbridge, Va.) and freshman Morgan Zerkle (Milton, W.Va.) continue to hit above .300 for the Herd. Greene leads the team with a .398 mark and is followed by Braxton at .327 and Zerkle at .300.
Braxton hit the double-digit mark for home runs when she recorded her 10th, against Miami (Ohio) last Wednesday. She also leads the team with 27 RBIs and 68 total bases.
Freshman Jordan Dixon (Edmond, Okla.) has handled the bulk of the pitching duties for the Herd, with 30 appearances and 23 starts. She is 7-15 with a 6.13 ERA and 119 strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS (9-17)
Senior Jessie Hutchens leads the Highlanders with a .338 batting average, 26 hits, 17 RBIs, 49 total bases and a .636 slugging percentage. She is followed by sophomore Casey Burns (.293) and freshman Julie Gardner (.270). Burns and Gardner rank second on the club on the team with nine RBIs.
A trio of pitchers work in the circle for Radford - freshman Abby Morrow (4-4, 3.67 ERA), junior Kelsey Weddle (1-5, 3.92 ERA) and sophomore Rachael Walters (4-7, 4.22 ERA). The three have combined for 148 strikeouts on the season.
UP NEXT
Marshall will return to Conference USA action for a three-game set against Middle Tennessee. The series will begin in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 5 and conclude Sunday, April 6 with a noon start.ââ'¬â€¹
