HAVE YOU HERD?
Junior Erin Simmons (Gahanna, Ohio) netted her first goal of Marshall's 2014 season in the Herd's 2-1 defeat of Appalachian State at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex (Sept. 7). After a scoreless first half, senior Kristine Culicerto (Charlotte, N.C.) got Marshall's offense going when she scored her team-high third goal of the 2014 campaign in the 49th minute. Marshall led in shots (16-13), shots on goal (7-5) and corner kicks (7-5). Roberson made five saves for the Mountaineers, and Herd goalkeeper Lizzie Kish (Boyertown, Pa.) made three saves.

SUPER SIMMONS
With her goal against Appalachian State (Sept. 7), junior Erin Simmons (Gahanna, Ohio) moved into a tie with Ashley Schillig (2002) for eighth place in the Herd record book with 11 career goals. Additionally, her five game-winning goals, 105 shots and 27 points rank Nos. 4, 6 and 9 all-time, respectively.

LONG STORY SHORT
Quotes by coach Kevin Long:

On junior forward Erin Simmons:
"What we're seeing now is more of what we saw in her as a freshman [before an offseason ACL tear]. When you look at her as an upperclassman, you see she is shouldering a lot of the responsibility. She's not just talking the talk, she's doing it. She's been a real staple for us and I'm looking forward to see where she goes and how she develops later in the season."

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Cincinnati (4-1-1) has not allowed a goal since a 2-2 double-overtime draw with UC Santa Barbara (Aug. 31), defeating its last two opponents by a combined score of 14-0. On Monday, the Bearcats swept weekly American Athletic Conference honors with Danielle Rotheram and Vanessa Gilles being named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. Twelve different Bearcats have scored this season, with Rotheram leading the team with four goals.

Friday marks the first regular-season meeting between Marshall and Cincinnati. Last season, the Herd traveled to Cincinnati and dropped an exhibition match to the Bearcats, 2-1 (Aug. 16, 2013).

SCOUTING THE COLONELS
It's been either feast or famine for Eastern Kentucky (2-3-0), which won its first two matches in shutout fashion but was blanked in its next three. The Colonels have not scored in 276 minutes, since a Dani Cant goal in the 84th minute against Alabama A&M (Aug. 29). Cant and two other players (Cassie Smith, Emmi Carroll) lead the team with two goals apiece. Eastern Kentucky will face UNC-Asheville on Friday before hosting the Herd on Sunday.

The Herd is unbeaten against Eastern Kentucky, at 2-0 all-time. Marshall has never allowed a Colonel goal, completing a 1-0 shutout at Sam Hood Field in 2006, and winning a 4-0 decision in 2011 in Richmond, Ky.

UP NEXT
The Herd will travel to Oxford, Ohio, for a meeting with Miami (Ohio) on Friday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. For all the latest information about Marshall women's soccer, follow @HerdWSoccer on Twitter.
