HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Senior forward Myka DeMarco (Dallas) scored her first goal of the 2014 campaign for Marshall women's soccer (1-2-1) in a 2-1 loss to Purdue (4-1-0), Thursday, at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.

In the 11th minute, junior Lia Foster (Keswick, Ontario) chipped a long ball to DeMarco who dribbled into the box sent it into the left corner of the net past Boilermaker keeper Erika Yohn, giving the Herd a 1-0 lead. On DeMarco's goal, Foster gained her second assist of the season. Two minutes later, Marshall was called for a foul inside the box, and Maddy Williams converted the resulting penalty kick for Purdue to even the match at 1.

Each team was looking for the go-ahead going into halftime, and just before the break, Delia Repasky collected a ball off her chest inside the eight-yard line from Holly Gregory and struck it past Herd keeper Lizzie Kish (Boyertown, Pa.). The Boilermakers kept their 2-1 lead for the rest of the match, despite Marshall's seven shot attempts in the second half.

AGAINST THE BOILERMAKERS
The Herd led shots (16-13), shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (9-5). All three of DeMarco's shots were on goal. Kish (1-2-1) faced four shots on goal, making two saves and taking two goals against her.

LONG STORY SHORT
Quotes by Coach Kevin Long:

On how the team needs to improve:
"We need to put two halves together that match each other. In the first half we played tentatively and it looked like we weren't in it. We had poor defending and poor urgency on our part. We cannot come out as complacent in the first half. That's poor commitment to the defensive side."

On opponent Purdue:

"We came into this game knowing Purdue was a good team. They're about as similar to a team from our conference as we could find. I think that was a major plus. I was eager to play this game."

On what the team can take away from this game:

"We need more product up front. I think there were times where our players up front were careless and impatient, so this game is a great lesson. Purdue is a great team and I wish them the best. Our goal is just to learn from the day."
