Tennis To Face No. 1 UCLA in ITA Kickoff

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall tennis will play its second match of the season as part of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday, Jan. 24, versus No. 1 UCLA in Los Angeles. Play will begin at noon (PST) at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center.



The Herd will follow with a match Sunday against either No. 64 Kansas State (1-0) or No. 74 UC-Irvine (1-0), depending on match outcomes.



The weekend's dual-match competition serves as the qualifying event for the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships, which take place in February in Charlottesville, Va.

Sunday's action will include the consolation match at 10 a.m. (PST) followed by the Indoor qualifier at 1 p.m. (PST).

HAVE YOU HERD?
The Herd won its spring season opener against College of Charleston 6-1 last weekend in Barboursville, W. Va.
Marshall won five of six singles, and also picked up the doubles point from wins at Nos. 2 and 3.

SCOUTING THE BRUINS
UCLA enters the weekend with the second and third ranked players in the country in seniors Robin Anderson and Chanelle Van Nguyen.
Anderson, Van Nguyen, and sophomore Jennifer Brady round out the top three rankings for the Southwest region. The Bruins boast seven total members on the 20 member regional list.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Kansas State began spring play with a 6-1 win over Northern Iowa last Saturday.
The Wildcats are led by sophomore Sara Castellano, who holds a No. 5 Central region ranking by ITA.

SCOUTING THE ANTEATERS



UC-Irvine opened spring play with a 7-0 sweep against UC San Diego.



The Anteaters will start the weekend facing Kansas State.
