HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team (4-8-1, 0-5-1 C-USA) will host Shawnee State on Tuesday (5-10) at 7 p.m. in its final non-conference game at Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.

HAVE YOU HERD?

Junior Rimario Gordon (Kingston, Jamaica), struck home a chipped shot from a lovely Daniel Jodah (Mississauga, Ontario) pass and the Herd defense allowed only one goal as Marshall earned its first Conference USA point at home to New Mexico on Friday in a 1-1 draw.

The point keeps Marshall alive in its bid to make the Conference USA Championships. Although, with New Mexico in the final transfer spot with four points, the Herd needs full points in its final two Conference USA matches (against UAB at home on Saturday and at Old Dominion on Nov. 7) to realistically stay in contention.

Gordon's goal gives the junior his team-leading fourth of the season.

TWO TEAM SAVES KEEP HERD IN CONTENTION

When soccer teams line up their defenses for set pieces (such as corner kicks and free kicks), sometimes a team elects to have a defender stand beside the posts for extra protection. It is important for the players on the posts to stay there until the danger is over and to use any part of their body, except for hands, to block an oncoming shot.

In Friday's match against New Mexico, two defenders, senior Connor Marino (Hopewell, N.J.) and Christian Kershaw (Severna Park, Md.) both made saves off the line to keep the score level and helped the Herd earn the draw.

SCOUTING THE BEARS

Shawnee State is 5-10 overall and 2-4 in the NAIA Mid-South Conference. The team has lost its last five games. Martyn Sayer leads the Bears in points with eight goals and two assists. Caspar Notte has six goals as well. Marshall is 2-0-0 all-time in the series.
