Box Score

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Three individual players scored as the Marshall men's soccer team earned a 3-0 win against the Shawnee State Bears on Tuesday at Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.

The Herd moves to 5-8-1 (0-5-1 C-USA), while the Bears are now 5-11.

AGAINST THE BEARS

Neither side was able to convert in the first half, even though both had their share of chances. The Herd took nine shots, with three on goal. The Bears had seven shot, with four on goal.

In the second half, the Thundering Herd roared to life in the 54th minute. After a well-worked spell of possession, junior attacker Daniel Jodah (Mississauga, Ontario) drove a hard shot home for Marshall off a deflection. The goal was Jodah's second of the year, which was assisted by seniors Ryan Forde (London, England) and Nick Edginton (Wellington, New Zealand).

Forde would then turn from provider to scorer in the 57th. Junior defender Arthur Duchesne (Piegut Pluviers, France) played an inch-perfect long ball to junior Trevor Starcher (Hurricane, W.Va.), who was wide open through the middle. Starcher then selflessly passed along the goal line to a free Forde, who poked the shot home.

The Herd's third goal came right at the hour mark. Jodah and Tommy Trupo (Scott Depot, W.Va.) combined down the right side. Jodah played a pass to senior Jack Hopkins (Birmingham, Ala.) who placed a shot to the far post from 12 yards out for his first of the season.

THE GRAY AREA
Coach Bob Gray on the match:

"I'm happy to get the win. It's been awhile since we tasted a victory. We knew Shawnee would be stubborn. They're a team where tonight, they were technically playing their Super Bowl tonight. They kind of said 'What have we got to lose?' and they were right. Credit them, because they played hard in the first half and we were trying to put some different personnel in."

"Obviously we got the response we needed after half time and got that early goal and played on their half of the field in most of the second half."
