Herd Men's Soccer Hopes to Strike Gold in Charlotte

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team (4-6-0, 0-3-0 C-USA) travels to North Carolina Saturday to face Charlotte (3-4-2, 1-0-1 C-USA) at 7 p.m.
HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall is coming off a hard-fought 2-1 loss to No. 19 South Carolina last Friday at home. The match was the Herd's second consecutive against a ranked Conference USA opponent.
TOP SCORERS BOTH HERD NEWCOMERS
Marshall's co-leading scorers, junior Rimario Gordon (Kingston, Jamaica) and freshman Chris Taibi (Wantagh, N.Y.) are in their first seasons with the program. Both players have three goals in 2015. Gordon, a junior, transferred to the Herd from Northeast Texas Community College, while freshman Taibi is in his first collegiate season.

SENIORS LEADING ASSISTS
Seniors Jack Hopkins (Birmingham, Ala.) and Ryan Forde (London, England) are the Herd's leaders in assists. Hopkins has four assists and is ranked No. 24 in NCAA Division I and No. 2 in C-USA with 0.50 assists per game. Hopkins also ranks No. 42 (No. 2 in C-USA) for total assists.
Forde has three assists and one goal.
IRON MEN
Five Marshall players have started and played in all 10 games. The players include seniors Matt Freeman (Irmo, S.C.), Ryan Forde and Nick Edginton (Wellington, New Zealand), along with junior Rimario Gordon and sophomore Christian Kershaw (Severna Park, Md.).
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte is 3-4-2 and 1-0-1 in the league. The 49ers lost 1-0 to No. 5 Clemson at home Tuesday. The lone win in C-USA was against No. 14 FIU in Miami. Last season, the Herd tied 0-0 with Charlotte when the 49ers were ranked No. 7 in the NSCAA poll. Marshall is 0-1-1 in the series. Kevin Langan is in his third season as coach.
