HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall softball Head Coach Shonda Stanton announced the signing of Elizabeth DeShields (Midwest City, Okla.) and Kailee Williamson (Norco, Calif.) for the class of 2020.
DeShields comes to the Herd from Carl Albert High School where she was selected Oklahoma All-State First Team catcher and the 5A-1 Defensive Player of the Year in 2015. She was named All Regional and All District from 2012-15.
"Liz is a versatile athlete that is strong behind the plate and can also provide depth in multiple positions on the infield," Coach Stanton said. "She has power potential offensively and the ability to provide solid production numbers in the heart of our line-up. Liz will fit well into our system with her knowledge of the game having played at such a competitive level."
DeShields is strong academically as well as she is a member of the 4.0 Club and the National Honor Society at Carl Albert.
Williamson attends Norco High School. As a pitcher she helped lead her team to the 2015 Southern Section, Division 1 CIF Championship.
"KK will make an immediate impact in the circle for us," Coach Stanton said. "She brings a strong dynamic that will complement our staff. She is a tough competitor and has the skills and drive to be a top pitcher in our league. We are extremely pleased to add another player from such a reputable travel organization in the Explosion."
Williamson also has the classroom success as she has lettered in academics three times.
Marshall opens the season Feb. 12, 2016 at the Troy University Tournament.
