CHAPEL HILL, NC - Marshall swimming and diving is locked in a battle with East Carolina headed into the final day of competition at the 2015 Nike Cup. The Herd is down 37 points to the Pirates with 7 events to go.

In this evening's finals, Freshman Caroline Wanner blasted a 4:19.11 in the 400 Individual Medley to easily win the Consolation Final. Her time would have placed second in the Championship Final behind only North Carolina All-American Emma Nunn. Wanner's time is the second fastest in Marshall school history and fastest in Conference USA this season.

Marshall's Emma Lockyer won the Bonus Final in the same event with a 4:24.09, the second best of her career. Maddie Schaffer finished 21st with a Lifetime Best 4:29.34, and Teel Hartmann was 24th (4:31.39).

Heather Lonkert also scored 21st place on 1 Meter Diving with a score of 218.75.

The 100 Butterfly continued Marshall's assault on the All-Time Top 10 list. Chloe Parsemain dropped another two-tenths of a second with a Lifetime Best 54.64 to place 10th. The time is the second fastest in school history. Parmesan's 100 Fly is also fastest in C-USA this season and her 100 Back is ranked No. 2.

In the 200 Freestyle, Anna Lynch finished 21st (1:53.06) and Madi Pulfer scored 23th (1:53.48).

Chloe Parsemain flirted with another Marshall school record in the 100 Backstroke. Her time of 56.20 won the Bonus Final, however was 0.01 shy of Marshall's school record set by Vera Niemeyer in 2014.

TRAMEL TALK

Marshall coach Bill Tramel on the meet:

"Another great night. We had some fantastic swims that were close to school records. It's going to be fun tomorrow. While the top four spots are out of reach, we are locked in a battle for fifth place. We have to be on our game tomorrow morning. Every swim and dive will count. It will be a tremendous challenge for us, but like I told the team, this is what it's like when you battle for a championship."

"Session 5 is the key. We had our best energy tonight, but tomorrow will be the hardest to manage mentally and physically. I know our team has the ability to be successful. Really though, regardless of what happens, we are already thrilled with the steps we have taken as a team at this meet. That said, these young women don't back down from anything anymore. I'm looking forward to watching what they do."
