Double-figure scoring performances from five players, including a team-high 22 points from junior forward Ryan Taylor (Indianapolis) helped Marshall reach its first win of the season, 82-76, over Eastern Illinois on Wednesday night at Cam Henderson Center. It was Taylor's first 20-point game of the season and the sixth of his career. Redshirt freshman C.J. Burks (Martinsburg, W.Va.) was next with 19 points. Senior forward James Kelly (Ann Arbor, Mich.) posted his second consecutive double-double (the third of his career) with 16 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Junior guard Stevie Browning (Logan, W.Va.) chipped in 11 points and junior Austin Loop (South Webster, Ohio) added 10.

SCOUTING THE COLONELS

EKU (7-3, 0-0 OVC) is led by senior Jarelle Reischel (18.9 ppg) and junior JaVonte Hawkins (18.8 ppg) who rank No. 2 and 3 in OVC scoring, respectively. Last time out, the Colonels took on No. 4 Kentucky in Lexington and trailed by only eight points with six minutes remaining, but the Wildcats pulled away with the 88-67 victory. Reischel led EKU with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists. The Colonels rank in the top 15 in the country in scoring offense (8th - 88.1 ppg), field goal percentage (11th - .511), 3-point field goal percentage (9th - .430) and total assists (11th - 177).

Marshall renews its rivalry with Eastern Kentucky (7-3) after a 20-year hiatus, as the teams have not met since 1995. Saturday will be the 40th meeting between the Herd and the Colonels, with EKU leading the series, 22-17. Marshall has the advantage in Huntington with a 13-5 all-time record, and has won the last three games. The Colonels have not beaten the Herd in Huntington since March 3, 1965 (94-92), when Marshall went 4-20 under coach Ellis Johnson.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

North Carolina Central (3-5, 1-1 MEAC) had its 38-game home win streak snapped by Howard in heartbreaking fashion on Monday, Dec. 7, on a jump shot with one second remaining, 71-69. Redshirt senior guard Dante Holmes leads the Eagles with 15.0 points per game, and Jeremiah Ingram is the team's top rebounder with 7.0 boards per game. Dajuan Graf dishes out 5.3 assists per game.

Monday will be the first meeting between the Herd and the Eagles.

GLOBAL SPORTS CLASSIC

Marshall and North Carolina Central will play as part of the 2015 Global Sports Classic, an eight-team event that spans over four campus sites before ending in Las Vegas on Dec. 21-22 in COX Pavilion. Other participating teams include Grand Canyon, Houston, Southern, Wyoming, Eastern Illinois and Omaha. The Herd defeated EIU at Cam Henderson Center, 82-76 (Dec. 9). Marshall will travel to Las Vegas to face Wyoming (Dec. 21) and either Houston or Grand Canyon (Dec. 22).
