HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University swimming and diving team will compete against the best in Conference USA Wednesday-Saturday in the 2015 Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships. This year's event will be held in neutral Knoxville, Tenn., at the Allan Jones Aquatics Center.
The action gets started on Wednesday, Feb. 18, with 1-meter diving prelims at 2 p.m. and swimming finals starting at 6 p.m.
On Thursday through Saturday, time trials will be held at 10:30 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.
A full schedule of the events and times can be found here.
Marshall's team prepared for the Conference USA Championships by swimming in an event that mirrors championship styles of time trials and multi-day sessions, the Zippy Invitational in Akron, Ohio on Dec. 5-7, 2014. The Thundering Herd finished the tournament third and smashed several school records along the way.
Marshall was also able to host Conference USA opponent Western Kentucky at the Fitch Natatorium in its final home meet of the 2014-15 regular season.
Marshall coach Bill Tramel said the Championships are what the team worked toward all season and that he hopes several swimmers can have the event of their careers.
"We are certainly excited about our Championships," Tramel said. "We've worked the past 6 months preparing for this meet, in addition to off-season work over the summer. This week is where it all pays off."
"We have lofty goals for this team of 2015. We want to break all 21 of our school records. We already have broken 7 through mid-season. But even more so, we want to have lifetime best performances. I believe we have 70 opportunities for lifetime bests this week. Our goal is to hit 70. If we can do that, we will consider this meet a great success."
