@Herd_Tennis to Face Two Virginia Teams

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - No. 73 Marshall tennis (5-2) will begin its first weekend as a ranked team as it hits the road to face two schools from the Old Dominion state.
The Herd will face Liberty University (7-1) Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Sports Racket in Lynchburg, Va., and will conclude the weekend in Blacksburg, Va., facing No. 50 Virginia Tech (5-1) at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center at 1 p.m.

HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall is coming off another 2-0 weekend, securing its first ranked wins of 2015. The Herd defeated then-No. 66 Louisville 5-2 and then-No. 71 Minnesota 4-3.
Last season, the Herd defeated the Flames in a 7-0 home sweep. At the time both teams were ranked (Marshall No. 63, Liberty No. 74).
On the contrary, the Hokies boasted a 5-2 win over the Herd last season, also at home. Sophomores Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany) and Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) were the only Marshall wins of the day, each squeaking out three-set singles matches.
This season, Pomyatinskaya leads the Herd with a 6-1 singles record.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES
The Flames are 7-1 this season, most recently coming off a 5-2 win over James Madison. The team's only loss was from Conference USA member FIU (4-3).
The Flame's No. 1 player, Belen Rivera, has a 4-1 record this spring.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
No. 50 Virginia Tech is 5-1 on the season, only falling to No. 7 Alabama 4-0 as part of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
The Hokies feature a No. 36 ranked doubles team of Francesca Fusinato and Raluca Mita.
UP NEXT
Marshall will return home to take on Penn State Saturday, Feb. 28 at 12 p.m. at the Huntington Tennis Club in Barboursville, W. Va. The Herd will also play No. 48 Utah Monday, March 2 at 7 p.m. at home.
