Marshall Coach Matt Daniel
On the win after losses to WKU and Mid Tennessee:
I think there's a sigh of relief a little bit. That's a great thing and an awful thing in the same breath because it is college athletics, but it also is sport. It's a game. I'm proud of the effort we gave today.
On changes from Thursday's loss to Middle Tennessee:
We had a little bit of a harder practice than yesterday; a little more intense. The energy was a little bit better, and I texted them and said, "If you want something, you have to go fight for it," and I thought we fought for it today. Practice changed, and our mentality changed. There wasn't a magic formula. Nothing we haven't done before.
On the team's mentality:
There weren't many loose balls that we didn't get today and I think that was the difference in our mentality and when our mentality is pretty good, we're dangerous.
On UAB's offensive strategy and how they countered:
Their point guard #21, I thought McKenzie (Akers) did a great job on (her) and their post player #25; they're 50% at least of their scoring. We were better on both ends of the floor. I'll give you an example: The other day in the first half against Middle (Tennessee State), we had 35 passes on 33 field goals attempts. Today in the first half, it was 78 passes on 32 field goal attempts.
On difference of this year and last year's team:
The thing that we've done this year that's different than last, aside from the last few games, is that we've figured out how to go do it together, whereas the last few games we've just been trying to will it to happen instead of letting it happen or making it happen.
Marshall's Aja Sorrells
On her four steals:
I was just reading the defense really. I think I just concentrated on the little details and they were basically just handing me the ball. I was just trying to help my team out.
Marshall's AJ Johnson
On shooting performance:
My teammates just kept feeding me the ball and told me to keep shooting; they told me to keep my head open and knock the next one down.
