LYNCHBURG, Va. -- No. 73 Marshall tennis (6-2) continued its winning streak Saturday, taking the edge over Liberty University 5-2 at the Sports Racket in Lynchburg, Va. The win marked the Herd's fifth straight victory.

The day's doubles action featured the novel 2015 scoring format, playing a set to 6 games. Senior Kai Broomfield (Toronto, Canada) and freshman Marija Bogicevic (Belgrade, Serbia) took care of business on court 2 with a quick 6-1 win.

Sophomore duo Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) and Derya Turhan ((Bad Salzuflen, Germany) dropped a 6-2 match on court 1, leaving the doubles decision to the third doubles pair.

Sophomore Rachael Morales ( Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and freshman Maddie Silver ( Grand Rapids, Mich.) claimed it, coming back from 2-4 down in the tiebreaker and winning the match 7-6(4).

The Herd was able to inflame singles play as well. Turhan tallied the scoreboard with a swift 6-2, 6-1 win on court 1, and Silver soon followed with a 6-1, 7-5 win on court 2.

The Herd secured its sixth win of the season when Pomyatinskaya triumphed in her three set battle (5-7, 6-2, 6-2) on court 3.

Morales's straight set win on court 6 (6-4, 6-4) gave Marshall its fifth point of the day.

On courts 4 and 5, Broomfield (6-1, 7-6 (9-7)) and Bogicevic (7-6(3), 6-1) fell respectively.

Up next, the Herd heads to Blacksburg, Va., to take on No. 50 Virginia Tech (5-2) at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center at 1 p.m. Live stats and video for Virginia Tech can be found here .

Quotes by Head Coach John Mercer

"I was very impressed with how Liberty battled today. They are a great team with a lot of fight in them, and I'm glad our girls were willing to rise to the challenge."

"Tomorrow's match will be tough. Virginia Tech has been a fierce competitor over the years. Right now they are ranked in the top 50, so this is another great opportunity for our team."

"Tomorrow I'm hoping we will show up with our 'go-getter' attitude we have had the past two weekends. If we show up with a fighting attitude and a discipline mentality, we cannot fail."
