HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University swimming and diving team was named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Team for the Fall semester of 2014, the organization announced today.

Among the Division One women's teams on the list, Marshall's 3.54 overall team GPA is tied for fifth in the nation. The Herd is tied with Bowling Green State University, Iona College, Tulane University and Yale University.

The list honors teams that had a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester. Marshall swimming and diving has received an Academic All-America team award in each of the past six semesters.

Herd coach Bill Tramel said his team's performance in the classroom is just as important as performance in the water.

"This honor is what I wait for each semester," Tramel said. "This is the sixth straight semester we have been honored with an All-America Academic Team award. I threw down a challenge to have a 3.50 team GPA this past semester. Well, they beat that. 3.54, and all 25 of our swimmers and divers have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Academics is something that I believe is just as important as performance in the pool and on the diving boards. Sadly, college athletics will be over for all of our athletes upon graduation. I know our swimmers and divers will be prepared for the next chapter in life."
