HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will host the 18th Annual Sweetheart Clinic on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Girls ages 4 through 12 are invited to participate in the free event. There is limited space available, so participants must pre-register individually on a first-come, first-served basis. No walk-up participants will be accepted.
Pre-registration, which will be accepted via only, will begin Friday, Feb. 6 through Friday, Feb. 13, or until the clinic is full. To pre-register, please visit and click the 2015 Sweetheart Clinic link at the top of the page. Registrants must provide their name, emergency contact number, e-mail address, t-shirt size, age, and whether they plan to attend the Marshall women's basketball game versus UAB at 1 p.m. Group registration is not permitted.
The Sweetheart Clinic began in 1998 in recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Since its inception, more than 2,000 girls have participated and had the opportunity to learn developmental skills in nine women's sports. Each year the Sweetheart Clinic is made possible through loyal partners, who have a true appreciation for The Herd and the National Girls and Women in Sports Day event. Marshall Athletics would like to thank Sodexo; Colonial Lanes; Papa Johns; Marshall Surgery; AMP Gymnastics; Valley Health; WV WIC Program; Marshall OB/GYN; Marshall Family Medicine; and Signs Unlimited for helping to make the 18th Annual Sweetheart Clinic a possibility this year.
Participants will be divided into age groups and will rotate through nine different stations, learning developmental sports skills from each of the Marshall's women's sports coaches and student-athletes. In addition to developmental skill instruction, participants will receive a free t-shirt.
Check-in for participants will last from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in Chris Cline Athletic Complex Indoor Athletic Facility. The clinic will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. Following the clinic, participants will enjoy a pizza party and a Marshall University Cheerleaders-led pep rally in Cam Henderson Center. Participants will then be invited to attend the Marshall women's basketball game versus UAB with free admission at 1 p.m. in Cam Henderson Center.
The clinic, including the pizza party, pep rally and women's basketball game, is free to participants. Sweetheart Clinic family members and observers may purchase a ticket to the women's basketball game at the Clinic for $3.
