Dixon Dominates, Herd Stays Unbeaten

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Junior pitcher Jordan Dixon had two commanding performances as the Thundering Herd remained undefeated and improved to 4-0 in 2015. Marshall defeated Bethune Cookman 2-1 and UMass-Lowell 3-0 in the Charleston Challenge in Charleston, S.C.
The Herd was led on the day by sophomore pitcher Jordan Dixon. Dixon picked up both wins to improve her record to 3-0 this season.
Dixon threw a combined 20 strikeouts in both games, with 7 in the first and 13 in the second. Dixon replaced junior Brittanie Fowler in the second inning of the second game and had 11 straight strikeouts from the time she started to go with the 13 total.
GAME ONE
Marshall would score again in the first inning, with sophomore Morgan Zerkle again coming home for Marshall. After reaching on a single, She stole second easily and was moved over to third from an expertly laid sacrifice bunt by junior Kaelynn Greene, before being brought home by freshman Elicia D'Orazio for the 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, sophomore Rebecca Myslenski hit a single into right field that brought home pinch-runner Emileigh Cooper from second.
Freshman Jordan Colliflower scored her first career run in the game.
GAME TWO
Dixon tossed 75 strikes to 57 balls after replacing Fowler after 1.1 innings. Marshall's runs were scored by Shaelynn Braxton (2-4), Elicia D'Orazio (1-4), and Katalin Lucas.
