Tennis Blanks Morehead State in First Match of Day

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall tennis won its first of two matches Saturday, sweeping Morehead State 7-0 at the Huntington Tennis Club in Barboursville, W. Va.
The Herd improves to 2-2, while Morehead State dropped to 1-4 on the young season.
Senior Kai Broomfield ( Toronto, Canada) and freshman Marija Bogicevic ( Belgrade, Serbia) wasted no time at the No. 3 spot, opening the match with a dominating 6-2 doubles win.
Sophomore duo Derya Turhan ( Bad Salzuflen, Germany) and Anna Pomyatinskaya ( Sochi, Russia) didn't fair as well, suffering a close 6-4 defeat on court 1.
The doubles point was clinched when sophomore Rachael Morales ( Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and freshman Maddie Silver ( Grand Rapids, Mich.) took the win at the No. 2 spot 6-4.
Singles play was just as sharp. Bogicevic used her doubles momentum to swing a quick 6-2, 6-1 win over the Eagles' Wild on court 5.
Silver played with a similar flair, defeating Ayaka Terashi 6-3 6-1 on court 2.
Nationally ranked No. 116 Turhan kept things exciting on court 1, proving victorious over the Eagles' first singles player Andrea LeBlanc 6-4, 6-2.
Pomyatinskaya finished moments later with a 6-4 6-2 win on court 3 over Morehead's McLean
Broomfield continued the offensive surge, downing Alex Tachovsky on court 5 (6-4, 6-4).
Sophomore Anne Gulsrud ( Stavenger, Norway) had her spring season debut on court 6, capturing a tight 6-7(2), 6-1, 10-5 win over Aleksandra Savic to pull off the Herd sweep.
