No. 62 Tennis to face No. 55 Rice Wednesday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- No. 62 Marshall tennis (11-4) will look to continue its winning streak as the team takes on its first Conference USA opponent in No. 55 Rice (6-7) Wednesday, March 18 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston, Texas.

After another 2-0 weekend with wins over Miami (Ohio) and Winthrop, the Herd moved up from No. 74 to No. 62 in the latest ITA ranking.
Rice jumped from No. 62 to No. 55.
The last time Marshall and Rice faced off was in the 2008 Conference USA tournament. At the time, No. 50 ranked Marshall defeated No. 64 ranked Rice 4-3 in the semifinal round.
Lone senior Kai Broomfield (Toronto, Canada) is on a five-match winning streak at the No. 4 spot and sophomore Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) continues to leads the team in singles wins (11-4).
SCOUTING THE OWLS
The Owls are 6-7, coming off their most recent win against former C-USA opponent Memphis 4-1.
Senior Natalie Beazant holds a national ranking of No. 23, and is 9-1 at number 1 singles. In doubles, she and partner Liat Zimmermann are ranked No. 67 nationally and are 4-4 in the same spot.

The Herd will remain in Texas, traveling just five miles down the road to take on former C-USA member No. 48 Houston Sunday, March 22 at Houston Country Club in Houston.
