@Herd_Tennis Prepares for Weekend Roadtrip

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- No. 70 Marshall tennis (7-4) will hit the road this weekend, facing two neighboring rivals.



First, the Herd will take on Cincinnati (4-4) Friday, March 6 at 4 p.m. at the Western Tennis & Fitness Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The team will then make the trip to Morgantown to play West Virginia (9-1) Sunday, March 8 at 9 a.m. at Ridgeview Racquet Club.

HAVE YOU HERD?

Last season, the Herd took care of business against both opponents at home, beating both Cincinnati and WVU by 6-1 scores.



Marshall dropped from No. 55 to No. 70 in the newest ITA rankings after beating Penn State, but losing to Utah- at the time No. 73- Monday by a 4-3 deficit.

Duo Rachael Morales (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and Maddie Silver (Grand Rapids, Mich.) won the deciding doubles matches in both contests last weekend. The pair leads the team in doubles action with a 7-3 record.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS

Cincinnati's Kelly Poggensee is 7-1 at the No. 1 singles spot with wins against (at the time) No. 42 Indiana University-Bloomington and No. 74 Memphis. In doubles, she and partner Lauren Bellinger are 4-2.



SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

West Virginia is 9-1, suffering its only loss to at the time No. 31 Ohio State 7-0. Kaja Mrgole is 7-2 at the No. 1 singles spot. In action she has switched partners between Ikttesh Chahal and Carolina Lewis. Mrgole's doubles record this season is 3-4 at the No. 1 spot.



UP NEXT



Marshall will return home against Miami of Ohio Friday, March 13 at 4 p.m., and Winthrop Sunday, March 15 at 10 a.m. The matches could be the Herd's first of the season at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center outdoor courts on campus, weather pending.
