Zerkle Earns C-USA Co-Player of the Week

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall softball center fielder Morgan Zerkle (Milton, W.Va.) has been named the Conference USA Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The award is Zerkle's second this season. The sophomore also received the honor on Feb. 16.
Zerkle had a highly impressive start to the Conference USA season, hitting.727 for the weekend. In 11 at bats, Zerkle recorded eight hits, with five RBI and four runs.
She hit 4-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored in the second game against FIU, a 13-3 win. In the first game of the series, she hit 3-4 with two runs and her first career out of the park home run, a deep shot to center.
Zerkle's trademark speed was also on display, with two stolen bases against FIU. She also walked once in the series finale. To top the weekend off, she had an on-base percentage of .750 and slugging percentage of 1.273.
Marshall went 2-1 against FIU to open Conference USA. The Herd will play its home opener on Friday (2 p.m.) and Saturday (12 and 2 p.m.) against Western Kentucky.
