Marshall Finishes Fifth at MSU Invitational

MURRAY, Ky. -- Freshman Leigha Holt (Holly Springs, N.C.) completed the Murray State Invitational with a career-low 54-hole total of 14-over-par 230 for Marshall women's golf on Saturday at Miller Memorial Golf Course.
After posting a career-best 3-over 75 in yesterday's second round, Holt finished in ninth place after carding a 5-over 77 final on Saturday afternoon. Additionally, teammate Sarah Helly (Enniscrone, Ireland) had her best day of the tournament with a 75, bringing her total to 17-over 233 for 15th place.
As a team, the Herd bettered its score by one stroke from the previous round to finish in fifth place at 78-over 942.
ON THE LEADERBOARD
Cincinnati took the team title at 45-over 909, and the Bearcats' Valentina Herrera won a one-hole playoff over Tennessee Tech's Whitney Robertson for the individual trophy (8-over 224).

"We ended the spring with three top 5 finishes which is a testament to how hard this team has been working. The first round is something we continue to battle with but every week there has been a great deal of positives. As a team we all came together this week. Our big key this week in practice will be on our short games. With a young team I will continue to look to our seniors to lead us and end their collegiate career on a high note. The girls have improved so much and we are really looking forward to heading to Florida next week."
On Leigha Holt:
"Leigha had a great tournament. She is swinging really well; her entire game is solid. Today she didn't have any three-putts and this week she didn't make worse than a bogey on any hole. This is such a big improvement. We have known she is capable of shooting some good scores but now she has seen them go up on the leaderboard. Moving forward this week will prove to be very big for her."
