HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall softball (31-11, 10-6 Conference USA), exploded past Northern Kentucky in a doubleheader sweep that included 29 total hits and 11 stolen bases at Dot Hicks Field Wednesday.

The Thundering Herd won the first game 9-2, while the second contest ended with a score of 6-3 Marshall.

Marshall surpassed its single season record for stolen bases in the second game. The team now has 141 on the season, which surpasses the 137 mark set in 2004.

GAME ONE

Marshall started out with a two run first inning after freshman Elicia D'Orazio grounded out, but scored sophomore Morgan Zerkle. Junior Shaelynn Braxton then hit a sacrifice fly to score junior Kaelynn Greene.

In the second Marshall plated three runs after Rebecca Myslenski singled to score pinch runner Jordan Colliflower. Senior Emileigh Cooper then scored Myslenski with an RBI single. Marshall's final run of the frame came after a bunt single by Greene which scored Cooper.

The Norse added two runs in the top of the fourth, but Braxton quickly claimed two more RBI, after she singled to score Cooper and Greene.

Marshall finished its tally in the sixth when Braxton collected her fourth RBI and scored Zerkle on a single to the shortstop. Freshman Taylor McCord then brought home Braxton.

Marshall sophomore pitcher Jordan Dixon earned the win after 15 strikeouts, one shy of her career high.

GAME TWO

Marshall started things out in the first again as Braxton was able to tally another RBI, scoring Greene. She finished with five on the day.

Marshall then had a four run second inning, which started when junior Katalin Lucas smartly advanced home while Colliflower was called out in a rundown. Later, Zerkle added an RBI when she scored Cooper from third. Greene followed suit right after Zerkle and sent a single to center field that the sophomore was able to score on easily. A D'Orazio single scored Greene and capped the scoring for a highly productive Herd inning.

Marshall added one more run in the bottom of the fourth, when Zerkle reached first on a bunt single and scored freshman Kylie Howard, who had been on with a double.

Dixon earned the win again, moving her tally this season to 29-11. Junior Brittanie Fowler earned the start in the game, providing three scoreless inning of work.
