Five @Herd_Tennis Players Earn Postseason Honors

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- After a successful 16-10 season, five Marshall tennis players recieved All-Conference USA honors in the 2015 C-USA Women's Tennis Postseason Awards.

Sophomores Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany) and Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) were additionally selected All Conference USA Second-Team in doubles. The pair ended the spring season with a 12-12 record at the No. 1 spot, including five wins against ranked teams.

Turhan and Pomyatinskaya were each selected as All Conference USA First-Team Singles players.

After starting the spring season ranked No. 116 in the country, Turhan went 10-12 overall in singles play. Her career highlight was a win against then-No. 9 Silvia Garcia of Univ. of Georgia 7-6(4), 6-0. So far she has tallied 22 career single wins at Marshall.

Pomyatinskaya carried a team-best 19-6 singles record this spring, her season highlight being a win against then-No. 107 Elena Kordolaimi of Houston. This season she posted a team-best six match winning streak, and in her two years has tallied 35 singles wins.

Freshman Maddie Silver (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was selected as an All Conference USA Second-Team Singles player. Silver posted a 16-9 record this spring, seven of her wins coming against players from ranked teams. During the season, she posted a personal best five-match winning streak, and in her first year has tallied 21 career singles wins.

Lone senior Kai Broomfield (Toronto, Canada) and sophomore Rachael Morales (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) were each selected as All Conference USA Third-Team Singles players.

Broomfield ended her final season for the Herd 10-12 in singles, playing in the heart of the lineup at Nos. 3 and 4. She ended her career with 53 wins, moving her into the Top 25 in the Marshall tennis record book.

Morales posted a team second best 18-5 record this spring; seven of her wins were against ranked teams. She was able to string together a five-match winning streak during the season, and was the deciding factor in four Herd wins. After her second year, she has tallied 32 singles wins.

Only C-USA champion Rice and Middle Tennessee named more players to the list, with six apiece. Old Dominion and Marshall each named five.
