Herd Closes Play at Chattanooga Classic

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- With a top finish of 20th by senior Sarah Helly (Enniscrone, Ireland), Marshall women's golf completed action at the Chattanooga Classic at Council Fire Golf Club.
After carding an 8-over-par 80 final round, Helly completed the tournament at 15-over 231, followed by teammate Korakot Simsiriwong (Narathiwat, Thailand) who finished one stroke back at 16-over 232 in 22nd. The Thundering Herd posted a team score of 75-over 939 for fifth place.
ON THE LEADERBOARD
Host Chattanooga took team honors by a 15-stroke margin at 23-over 887. Vanderbilt's individual entry, Morgan Ransom, championed the event at 2-under 214.

"There were some bright spots, one being our putting as a team was much better. We finished fifth in a field that we were the sixth highest ranked team. The key for us this time of year is to find all the positives that we can. Each player and I will go over what areas they need to work on and create a plan.
On moving forward:
"We turn around and leave for Murray State tomorrow and it looks like we will have some good weather. This week it's important for the girls to really grind out every shot and stay committed. I am very confident if we can have a solid first round we will put ourselves in contention. You can't win the first day but you can take yourself out of it. I think this semester we have dug a big hole in the first round and just didn't have enough to claw our way back out."
