IRVING, Texas -- Marshall women's golfer Korakot Simsiriwong (Narathiwat, Thailand) is one of 14 Conference USA student-athletes to receive the league's Spring Spirit of Service award, Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced Wednesday.

The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with Wednesday's honorees representing Conference USA's spring sports: baseball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's outdoor track and field.

"Gone [Simsiriwong] was a great ambassador for Marshall University and our women's golf team," Herd coach Tiffany Prats said. "She enjoys helping people any way that she can. It's part of what makes her such a great person."

Simsiriwong turned in a career year for the Thundering Herd women's golf team, posting the squad's best individual finish in five of 10 events during the 2014-15 campaign. She registered four top-20 placements and shot a season-low round of 71 in back-to-back tournaments. A native of Thailand, Simsiriwong has volunteered as an English teacher in her home country. She has also reached out in the Huntington community, coordinating canned food drives, speaking at high schools in the area and teaching local youth the game of golf. Simsiriwong is a four-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and graduated in May with her bachelor's degree in exercise science.

"It was an honor to coach her this past year, I'm very happy she received this honor," Prats said. "I hope all of my players will continue to follow in her footsteps and help to better our community, university and world."
