HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall men's basketball coach Dan D'Antoni has signed Ajdin Penava (Bosnia and Herzegovina), a 6-foot-9 forward, to round out his 2015-16 recruiting class, it was announced Friday.
Penava's most recent action was with the Turkish Airlines Euroleague's U18 Spars Sarajevo earlier this year, when he averaged 2.3 points and 2.7 rebounds over seven games on 66.7 percent shooting from the field. He pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds in a 70-67 win over U18 Unicaja Malaga on May 16.
"He's very versatile, 6-foot-9, and long," D'Antoni said. "He's skilled and he's an outstanding student. He will fit in very well with our style of play. As a big man, he's good with his back to the basket."
The Turkish Airlines Euroleague is Europe's premier club basketball league, according to NBA.com. D'Antoni's younger brother, Mike, a fellow Marshall Hall of Famer, was named one of the 50 Greatest Contributors in Euroleague History on February 3, 2008.
Other notable Euroleague products are Manu Ginobili (a four-time NBA champion and two-time All-Star for the San Antonio Spurs), Vlade Divac, Arvydas Sabonis, Toni Kukoc, Drazen Petrovic and Sarunas Jasikevicius.
