HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall softball announces its schedule of games for the fall season of September into October. The Herd is set with three double headers at Dot Hicks Field as well as one road trip.
Marshall gets rolling right away with the first matchup Sunday Sept. 13 with the University of Charleston coming to Huntington. The Herd played the Golden Eagles this past year in the fall and won the game 4-0.
Head Coach Shonda Stanton knows it is still early in the fall season but bringing in outside competition is always helpful in seeing where the team is in the process. "Fall ball is for teaching and learning," Coach Stanton stated. "This is our first week of practice, so it will be nice to compete early in the fall season and to gauge what our focus needs to be over the next four weeks."
The 2015-16 Herd softball team features a great mixture of experienced returners as well as a big crop of youngsters who are ready to roll. "We have a strong returning group of veterans and a talented bunch of newcomers," Coach Stanton said. "My coaching staff is really excited about our combination of speed and power and the depth at multiple positions which helps breed competitive excellence."
Following the doubleheader match-up with Charleston, Marshall will hit the road to regional and longtime rival Ohio Saturday Sept. 26. The times have not yet been set.
The Herd then finish the fall ball season with two home doubleheaders in October. The first is Sunday Oct. 4 against Concord with a first pitch time set for noon at Dot Hicks Field. The final games will feature Ohio Valley traveling down to Huntington Saturday Oct. 10 with a first pitch to be 1pm.
Recaps will be available following the games. You can also follow along with live tweets @HerdSB.
